In the days gone by our parents used glass stove top Pyrex coffee pots to brew coffee. These coffee pots were manufactured by specialised heat resistant glass and were manufactured under the brand name of Pyrex. The brand name Pyrex was introduced by the Corning Incorporation in 1951.
The sale of Pyrex coffee pots has now reduced because stores now sell more of technologically advanced appliances such as microwaves, electric kettles, machine percolators etc. However, people still remember the taste of coffee brewed in Pyrex percolator coffee pots.
The method of making coffee in a Pyrex coffee pot is actually quite simple. There are two portions, upper and lower in a coffee pot. You have to put cold water in the lower part of the pot.
Next, place ground coffee in the filter basket which slides onto the tube that fits into the bottom of the pot. Now cover the filter basket with the round perforated filter cover. After covering the coffee pot with the lid, place it on the stove. Soon you will see the water starts to boil. The water passes onto the basket through a tube. As soon as the water starts spewing from the tube lower the flame. After some time, say around 15 minutes, turn the stove off. You now have a strong hot coffee ready to drink.
Investing in a Pyrex percolator coffee pot is a great idea. You can use it as a spare coffee pot or just use it to add a retro look to your kitchen. You can buy pre owned Pyrex coffee pots from online stores. Most of these are in good condition. The coffee percolators come in 4, 6, 9, and sometimes 12 cups sizes.
The vintage 4 Cup Pyrex Glass Percolator coffee pot measures 61/4 inches in height. The base of this Pyrex coffee pot is 5 inches in diameter.
The Glass Pyrex Flame 12 Cup Percolator Coffee Pot has Pyrex imprinted on the inside of the stem. The model number is printed at the base of the pot.
The modern looking Danish Pyrex coffee pot and warmer comes with a metal rim and a cork style stopper. The coffee pot is 12 inches in height.
The 3397 Pyrex Coffee Pot holds 9 cups. It has a handle made of bakelite. It is taller than other Pyrex coffee pots. The brew basket is made of glass. The pot is cylindrical in shape.
