“Seasoning” new pans, even non-stick pans is suggested. I did not know that, but it makes sense and it does make them work better. It is also suggest that we RE-season our pans after 10-20 dishwasher cycles to keep them slippery and prevent food from sticking.
I am getting rid of some old Teflon (or what ever non stick stuff is on them) pans because they are all scraped up and not working as well and I have heard they may be unhealthy to use. Who knows about the unhealthy part… but having new pans to cook things in is awesome. And new pans do not really cost all that much.
So far I bought a couple of “OK brand” pans at a big box discount store and the 8 inch small egg pan cost and the 12 inch pan cost .00, neither came with lids, but I think that is a fine price for an OK name brand. They are not fancy but they claim to be healthy and they do work good.
For fun I read all of the VERY fine VERY small print on the back cover that came with the pans and I was surprised to read we are supposed to season them.
I don’t know if this is common knowledge, but if just one other person does not know this and learns it here, then my objective is met.
HOW TO SEASON A NEW NON-STICK PAN-
Heat pan on medium for 30 seconds or so, pour in 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, use a paper towel to rub the oil until it is silky smooth.
NEVER use metal utensils in non stick pans. Buy a couple of new plastic (or other soft material) spatulas when you buy a new pan.
